Simon Breen was born in Kobe, Japan, in 1982 to a Japanese mother and an English father. He studied English Literature and Language at Trinity College, Oxford, and was awarded the Gibbs' Prize for Outstanding Graduation Thesis. After a number of years travelling through Europe and Asia, he settled near Tokyo where he has been a practising painter since 2009.
